Enjoying the Moment

Enjoying the Moment

My enjoyment of photography stems not from studio work, as much as that pays bills - or from commissions, even though they are fun and often challenging - but rather from the haphazard opportunism that always having a camera with me allows.

My parents taught me from an early age to be prepared... and my childhood was accompanied by 8mm (super 8) and a variety of Pentax and Olympus 35mm cameras... The philosophy was that the day I didn't have a camera with me would be the day that the elephant crossed the road! Ironically the day the elephant did cross the road, I had only one shot left in the camera and the wrong lens to get a decent shot (though in Thailand, I should have been better prepared)!

What it has meant though, is that I rarely go anywhere without some means of recording the moment... giving me a multiplicity of rare plants, stray dogs and cats and the odd blurry elephant. Being an opportunistic photographer also changes the way I look at places and things as I drift along, sometines the smallest detail on a door (like a handle or a lock) holds more interest than the house - or a crack in a brick draws me more than the plant growing next to it. I hope to share some of the eclectic mix of subjects that has drawn my eye over the last few years - if you like what you see, thank you, there is much more of my work available as royalty free .jpgs on www.javeaphotos.com
